Assessment & Treatment

Heart Disease Assessment and Treatment

A thorough heart disease assessment includes these five important screenings:

Complete Lipid Panel Screening (High Cholesterol)

A simple blood test measures cholesterol levels including HDL, LDL, triglycerides and total cholesterol – all important in assessing heart health.

C-Reactive Protein (CRP) Screening

A simple blood test measures heart disease and stroke risk levels. CRP levels rise from infection or inflammation.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening

A painless, noninvasive procedure where a technician uses ultrasound to check your abdominal aorta.

Glucose Levels Screening (Diabetes)

A quick and easy blood test screening that measures blood glucose levels after eight hours of fasting to help identify diabetes.

High Blood Pressure Screening

We perform this quick, easy test at every heart screening to monitor diastolic and systolic blood pressure.

The Most Effective Treatments

Lifestyle Changes

Whether your heart disease is mild or severe, Dr. Peterson will recommend lifestyle changes as part of your treatment. He will recommend a low-fat and low-sodium diet, at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise four or more days per week, quitting smoking and limiting alcohol consumption.

Medications

Dr. Peterson may prescribe medication to lower your blood pressure, blood thinning medication (daily aspirin therapy) or cholesterol-lowering medication.

Medical Procedures

If medication isn’t enough, Dr. Peterson may recommend a specific procedure such as angioplasty, cardiac catheterization, stent placement or coronary artery bypass surgery to clear any heart blockages.
